Below you’ll see one of our weekly posts called “Faith in the News.” The goal of this weekly update is to highlight the latest in faith in politics and public life in the US and abroad. We also showcase cultural and social happenings, plus fun or touching stories from faith communities when we find them. Faith in the News, week of 3 July 2022
The Presidential Medal of Freedom ceremony was this week. Sr. Simone Campbell and Father Alexander Karloutsos were honored. (RNS) Also, Civil Rights hero Diane Nash received a deserved medal. (Smithsonian Magazine)
Eid al-Adha is today and tomorrow for Muslims around the world. Many are traveling to Mecca, Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj pilgrimage. With the pandemic having interrupted so many years of the pilgrimage, numbers of the faithful are back up this year. (USA Today)
Here is Anne Lamott in the NYT on why and how she prays. The New York Times, interestingly, is collecting reader submissions on what prayer means to them, and what role prayer plays in their lives. You can submit your perspective in a form right at the bottom of Lamott’s op-ed.
