Political Brief: We're in the fall midterm sprint
Also, we're 6 months into the Russian invasion of Ukraine
Dear Friends,
We hope you had a great Labor Day Weekend. Michael is getting into baseball since the Baltimore Orioles are in the playoff hunt, but unfortunately he thinks his attendance at games brings the team bad luck.
At least he won in the kitchen by making this recipe. Here’s a video so you can watch the icon, the legend, Lidia Bastianich, make it.
Reclaim hope this week,
Michael & Melissa
The 3 things you should know:
We’re in the final fall sprint to the November midterm elections across the country. (NYT) Tomorrow, Massachusetts has its primary and next week, other New England states conclude the primary season.
If you read anything else on the midterms this week, let it be this interview from Errin Haines at 19th Street News on women’s decision-making (especially Republicans, Independents, and swing voters) in the final two months. “Longwell said that what started as a referendum election — do voters think Biden is doing a good job or not? — is now a choice election — which party do voters trust more to make decisions about their rights? She predicts this will translate at the ballot box, as voters see the election as a choice about the right to abortion and as Republicans have nominated candidates who many view as extreme.”
A federal judge agreed to appoint a special master (a non-government third party) to review the documents seized at Mar-a-Lago. (National Review)
Midterm Update
In MA, we’re watching the Republican primary for governor. Former state Rep. Geoff Diehl and businessman Chris Doughty, a businessman, are running. Diehl has President Trump’s endorsement; Diehl is a 2020 election denier. He also ran for Senate in 2018. Doughty is touting himself as a moderate. (Mass Live)
President Trump held a supporter phone call with Diehl just last night in final push for today’s voting. (Boston Herald)
