I recently watched a video on Game Theory and international relations (related to the Prisoner's Dilemma and cooperation). Obviously, the Trump administration is choosing to defect rather than cooperate in posture. It seems to me that the Trump administration defects to bring other nations to the table, which then leads to some sort of strange cooperation. Clearly there's been significant damage rendered nationally and internationally, but in your assessment, is there any sense in which other nations are too afraid to defect as well?
Excellent comparisons RE game theory. Right now, yes! Perhaps they're not afraid (to parse words), but very apprehensive. It still isn't in the national interest, and there is precedence that you just don't defect from an ally of several decades. I wrote this piece because I don't know how long the precedence will hold, and I do not know how long national interest will hold.
I would point out that from its formation until 2017, not a single significant member of NATO save for rhe United States, lived up to the agreement of spending 2% of its GDP on defense. I woukd also point out that Europe in general and Germany in particular have pursued idiotic energy policies that amounted to nothing more than voluntary unilateral disarmament while China and India, not subject to any metrics or repercussions in the Paris Accord, doubled down on their opening of hundreds of coal burning plants. As a result, Europe as a whole has sent hundreds of billions to Russia because they would have even worse energy problems. I would also point out that NATO's expansion East combined with Obama's defunding of the missiles in Poland created a situation where proximity to Russia was worse while lethality was lower (menace with less teeth will get you killed in a strèet fight). Finally, regarding immigration, this is not a problem you experienced in the last decade and resolved but rather a problem that is manifesting itself everyday in France, England, Portugal, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and other countries. I would also point out the decidedly anti-democratic inprisionement of political foes, annulment of elections, ostracization of parties with a very significant popular support, inder the guise of protecting democracy. Hypocrisy at its best. Regardless, the world trade order will be reset, a new world order might be created but it will not be the one envisioned by the WEF, by Klaus Schwab, or Gazprom's Gerhard Schröeder. The people will not be denied. They will save Western civilization.
I found this piece really interesting, Melissa.
